ABOUT BWINDI

Gazetted in 1991, this 331 km² UNESCO World Heritage Site protects half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Accessible only on foot, the forest hosts 21 habituated gorilla families and supports one of Africa’s richest ecosystems, with over 90 mammals, 346 bird species, and numerous Albertine Rift endemics.

How to get there

Bwindi is accessible by road with an 8 to 10-hour drive from Kampala through Kabale or Kisoro. Daily flights from Entebbe arrive at Kihihi or Kisoro, followed by a short drive to reach the park. The four main trailheads are Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo, each with its own access point and nearby lodging.
